Music from the Heart

For David Nakazono, the ultimate aim of music is communication — “communicating a message, an idea, a story, through sound.” And he is mastering that art as an undergraduate performance major in the UCSB Department of Music. With acclaimed musicians such as Jill Felber and Grant Hungerford on the faculty, and emphases ranging from composition to ethnomusicology, the department offers students world-class instruction and mentorship that translates to the stage, the orchestra pit and the academy.
